The 1 and only!

Film Remakes

I came up with a theory behind why there may be so many remakes of classic films- and don’t deny that there aren’t any remakes of films.

I think that studios want to cash in on films that were sucessful in the past.

I think that directors want to take the films that they grew up with in their childhood and put their own spin on it.

This might be a reasonable explanation behind why so many remakes of films are made.

More thoughts to come soon.

Facebook’s ‘Map’ feature.

It’s a pretty interesting concept if you think about it, not only does it tag the locations of where you are for your friends to be jealous, but it also shows the location on a map, so you can always look back and say, “damn, I remember when I was there” or something along those lines.

—-

But what interests me is how companies could (and probably do) use this feature. Simply put, it tags locations, dates, times, and who you’re with (if you input that).

Companies could use this to determine what is popular and cool. If Facebook is tagging all this information that we all post, how can we be sure that the companies aren’t buying this information from facebook?

With this information, they can find what is cool, what age is it popular with, the time of day people go, and much more. So they can go about selling their products and what not.

—-

Research, marketing and focus groups have just been made simple.

“What is your age?”

“What is your name?”

“Where do people your age hang out the most?”

“What sexual orientation of people go there?”

“How many people do you go with?”

“What day of the week do you hang out?”

“What times do you guys hang out and for how long?”

All this information is pretty much up for grabs when it comes to using facebook.

—-

Remember though, we might say companies are invading our privacy- but we are the ones putting the information up.

This is all just speculation though, I myself put a lot of information up about me on my facebook about bands/artists I like, movies. This in turn will show companies what appeals to me, and perhaps people my age.

Just watch out how much information you put up there.

Hate for Batman Begins?

I’ve seen quite a lot of hate on Batman Begins lately comparing it to The Dark Knight mainly due to The Dark Knight Rises.

Why the hate?

People have been saying that Batman Begins didn’t need Ra’s Al Ghul and that he was a waste of time and that Heath Ledger’s Joker was much better than Liam Neeson’s Ra’s Al Ghul.

First off, I enjoyed Batman Begins AND The Dark Knight. There are pros and cons in each- but they shouldn’t really be taken as individual movies, but rather part of a whole.

They’re 2 (and soon to be 3) films in Christopher Nolan’s vision of what he saw for Batman.

Batman Begins deals with how Bruce Wayne became Batman

The Dark Knight deals with Batman’s struggles in Gotham as both a hero and Bruce Wayne and ends with a strong note. The city will now hunt him.

I don’t quite know what The Dark Knight Rises will be about, aside from quite the obvious, Bane decides to take his terrorist acts to Gotham, breaks Batman’s back, Bruce Wayne falls and then Batman rises again. Taking place 8 years after The Dark Knight.

So the three together deal with Bruce Wayne becoming Batman, dealing with being both Bruce Wayne and Batman, then having his reputation destroyed and then eventually recovering(?)

I am excited for The Dark Knight Rises and hope to see it in IMAX during the midnight premiere. July 2012. Heck yes!
